Drawing of doctor
The Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health carried out a Patient and Family Survey. Read the comments about Dr Jo Jones practice.

“Everything is going fantastic, she is really managing the CFS superbly so much so we hardly mention it, although we know the warning signs so know when to alter things. The determination she has shown to overcome it has shocked us all and if you can beat it she certainly has. We have also managed a full term at school and academically excelling.
Thank you again we can never thank you enough for all what you did to help.”

You are such an encouraging person!”

(mother of 9 year old with suspected Asperger's Syndrome, January 2012)

“I wasn't sure at the beginning – it's hard to trust someone. As we talked more, I could see that you cared about the whole family and not just my son and one part of his body. Other doctors haven't done that. It means a lot, the way you care.”

“Jo, You know how through life, there are people who you always remember because they have made some sort of impact (large or small) on your life. It could be in the way you see things now, the decisions you made because of their advice, maybe their weird sense of humour or their acts of kindness.
Well, I have to say that you are most certainly one of those people to us, and it's not for the weird sense of humour!
You have shown passion for your profession, and positivity for health, in a world of information overload and over protectiveness.
My daughter for sure has been so influenced by you and now wants to be a kiddie doctor.”

(mother of two girls I saw with general health problems, Coventry, November 2011)

“Dear Jo, Thank you so much for your help and reports about K. I am pleased to report that K is settling in well to her new school; early days of course but for the moment we are delighted with the improvements we have already enjoyed in K's behaviour. One initial impression is that the school go out of their way to accentuate her positive character traits – a tactic which is universally successful, and expecially so for K.
I am certain that this good start shares its roots with your consultation with you; certainly we as parents are far more confident and at peace with our decision to change her environment. We have greater understanding, clarity and focus in how to respond to K's needs as a result of your advice, which almost certainly has led to an important and helpful subconscious change in our own demeanour. We also have a renewed sense of relief and optimism for K's future. Thank you again, Jo.”

Imogen has been taking the melatonin for the past few nights – its made a massive difference, shes asleep by 8.30 at the latest and isnt having disturbed sleep – her duvets still on the bed in the morning! Cant believe something so simple could make such a difference.
Overall things are going well and I wanted to thank you for explaining everything so well – I think that was what had been missing from previous doctors. I can see what ive got to work with and whilst understanding that it wont be a miraculous cure it is what is best for Imogen. You have a holistic understanding of how Imogens problems affect her”

We have had to fight all the way, spend money etc to get to this point and it isn't over yet. The system is all wrong. However, without your quick intervention and referral to the right people at the BCH we really would not be as far forward as we are so we have so much to be grateful to you for.

I just wanted to say a huge thank you to you Jo. We appreciate your input so much and it has made a massive difference to our lives and E's.

I recommend you to friends and family all the time.”

(Mother of a little girl with suspected but unconfirmed metabolic condition and Autistic Spectrum Disorder, Rugby)

“Thank you so much for your call, I'm sat here in tears after reading the testimonials just because I've finally got some hope. You are the only doctor who hasn't made me feel stupid for my concerns and you haven't even seen us yet. Saturday can not come fast enough, thank you so much for fitting us in at the end of the session.

Just to say a huge thank you again for your time yesterday. We finally feel H is in safe hands. As we said we have not been taken seriously before yesterday other than by our health visitor and had to really push even for a private referral but we are so glad we did. Even though ideally nothing would be wrong with H we feel so pleased that we now know what we are dealing with and can help him. From my point of view I now feel like less of a failure especially from the feeding point of view as it was something I had desperately wanted to do and having successfully fed my daughter for 10 months, I felt such guilt for ‘giving up’ at 6 weeks and like I was inadequate and unable to satisfy him. Now I understand the reasons for his trouble feeding I feel better and whilst I know it's not about me it helps me to feel stronger and more able to be a better mummy!

I'm looking forward to being able to report a positive change in H's situation but felt I wanted to let you know and thank you for the positive changes you've already had on our family outlook.”

(Mother of 8 week old tremendously unsettled baby, Solihull)

“He has really improved, school have seen an improvement in most areas, he is happy and confident. He has had no visible side effects. He sleeps and eats well.

Thank you so much for helping us; we all really appreciate it.”

(Mother of 11 year old boy recently diagnosed with and started on treatment for ADHD, Warwick area)

“Jo, his report is a complete turn around compared to previous! The Head has written to him also to congratulate him. I really wanted to show you his report.

He is more considerate and calm in stressful situations.

I have seen a difference between the original dose and the increased dosage. The increased dosage has made a visible difference. He rarely gets uptight but seems able to manage emotions accordingly. He still has teenage boy moments but these are like all teenage boys not exceptional. Comments in his report clearly indicate increased concentration and demonstration of the potential that school and home know he has.

I am so pleased, Jo, with progress so far; I don’t want this bubble to burst! ”

(Mother of teenager diagnosed with and treated for ADHD by me, Rugby area)

“The medication which you prescribed has made a huge difference – enabling Annabel to feed in comfort – for which we are all very grateful.

“Many thanks for seeing our daughter a few weeks ago and for the medical report that you sent through the post for us. Since she has been drinking Nutramigen we have seen such a profound change in her. She is comfortable and happy and that is absolutely wonderful.
Thank you so much for seeing and treating her. You were very thorough and very kind. Thank you also for your kind comments in the medical report about our 'beautiful' baby. I am very bias and so agree wholeheartedly.”

(Mother of desperately unsettled 4 month old baby girl, Leamington Spa)

“Hi Jo,
It was really nice meeting you yesterday.
Saheba (5) was thrilled to meet you and I smiled when I overheard her later saying to her sister that you were 'like a normal lady' (I am assuming she said this because you were very friendly and walking about, as opposed to sitting behind a large desk in an authoritative manner). Now this is quite sweet: She says when she grows up, she wants to be a Doctor like you and make children happy. So there you have it, one more fan to add to your Club!
Importantly, Saheba feels a lot more confident in her health after the appointment, and so do I. I had begun to worry especially about her tummy pains. I can now relax in the knowledge that these 3 episodes were just bad luck and that now we can just get on with our life as normal. I am a little more clued up about viruses and Bacterial infections now and will bear in mind for future GP Visits, that a swab is useful to have done.
I truly hope that our recent regular visits to the GP will be a thing of the past. Thank you for the confidence you have given little Saheba and myself.”

(Usha and Saheba Chabra, Coventry.)

“Thanks again for all your hard work and for making such a difference to our lives”

(Father of 13 year old boy diagnosed with Asperger’s Syndrome, Worcestershire)

(Mother of 8 year old girl with learning problems, Leamington Spa)

“Dear Dr Jones,
Just to say thanks for seeing our son the other day. It was such a relief to meet a doctor who listened to us and explained everything so carefully. Tom thought you were totally cool by the way which is a compliment in itself! Thanks again for all your help.”

(Mother of 15 year old lad, Stratford–on–Avon area)

“I could hug you! – after only two weeks of behaviour management (and me being brave), our little boy is completely sleeping through the night – it is such a dramatic change and he is like a new child. Everything is better!”

(mother of two year old who was up all night, Solihull…after one consultation)

“Our daughter really enjoyed meeting you, she was on quite a 'high' when she got home and keen to tell everyone all about it. It was a huge help seeing you last week, thank you so much.”

(Mother of 9 year old with specific learning difficulties, Stratford–on–Avon area)

“I feel an enormous sense of relief having seen you today in clinic. I felt reassured at long last and cannot thank you enough. Thank you for your expertise, your fantastic manner with my little boy and above all your kindness – I will definitely come back to you again if I am ever worried!”

(mother of 4 year old boy with tummy aches, Rugby)

“Thanks again for your time the other day – we'll be pulling up trees to get referred to you for the future.”

It is clear that you truly understand and care about children and this has come across in how you have dealt with Lucy.

In the nicest possible way, I hope we won't have to come back to you in the future!”

(parents of 2 year old little girl with delay in walking, Dorridge)

“What you are doing for my son is truly remarkable and we are truly grateful to you”

(mother of 14 year old with behavioural and learning difficulties, Knowle)

“Dear Dr Jo,

Thanks you for listening to us. You're the first doctor who has really listened to what we were saying and not just talked over us – your a breath of fresh air! We are really grateful for the help you have given us and our little boy and we feel confident that we will get to the bottom of his problems at last”

(parents of toddler with breathing problems, Warwick)

“We just wanted to say thank you for today. It was such a relief to get some positive answers for our daughter and important for her too, to know she hasn't been imagining everything, especially after the GP's comments.

Many thanks again for today we cannot express how grateful we all are as a family”

(family from Nuneaton with 12 year old daughter with Chronic Fatigue Syndrome)

“I just wanted to say thank you for spending that time with us Dr Jo. We both felt that we had met an amazing person who knew how to talk to us and reassure us because we were so frightned. You really do know your job too. I haven't met a doctor before who has such a gift with children, she was so happy being with you and normally she fights everyone. You made us feel listened to and we will never forget you and the help you gave us.”

(mother of 2 year old with ‘funny turn’, Stratford on Avon)

“My son's behaviour took me close to a complete breakdown. When he was referred to you, I was basically on my knees ready to throw in the towel! Then a miracle happened and I met you! Slowly you made me understand and accept that there was a deeper underlying problem that needed medical attention. Although I withheld information from you initially, you did your thorough research very professionally and always made me feel so comfortable that it became very easy to converse with you regarding his behaviour.

Your advice plus the recent diagnosis has helped me to accept that he doesn't do things to annoy me on purpose but that's the way he is as he has Asperger's Syndrome. At least I have a reason for his behaviour now and thanks to you, I can stop blaming myself and make sense of it all. I certainly can't predict the future but one thing that I can tell you is that you have changed our present by lifting this ‘dark cloud of blame’! I just felt it was important to let you know how much your diagnosis, your time, your care can affect a young person’s life. You have done a fabulous job with both of us and at least we can enjoy one another now, although if you spent an evening with us, you would probably disagree! Seriously thank you for all your invaluable advice, help and continuing support.”

(Mother of 10 year old boy with ADHD and Asperger's Syndrome, West Midlands)

“Needless to say you have worked your magic on Jake and the medication is now holding fine – so Thank You – He is getting HUGE now as you might imagine!)”

“Just wanted to thank you once again for the time you spent listening to me during our Saturday appointment. We have had a wonderful weekend with family – not worrying! and have had wonderful sleeps as a result.”

(Mother of 3 year old girl with kidney problems, Stratford)

(Senior Children’s Nurse, Worcestershire)

“Jo is a wonderful and caring physician and I would unequivocally recommend her to anyone. Wonderful, interested and excellent service.”

(American mother of 12 year old boy with ADHD)

“Oscar - well what can i say everyone has said he is a different child, to us we have our happy little boy back, you got his diagnosis spot on he is still on the movicol, he is really enjoying his food, obviously as you said he is still scared of pooing but it IS coming out, his bottom has cleared up. We can actually make plans and not have to worry about him, so we think thank god we found you.
Just want you to know seeing you was the best thing we ever did, your a star thank you from the bottom of our hearts.”

(mother of small boy with anal infection and severe bowel problems, Solihull)

“Hi Jo, I just wanted to tell you that since the talk we had earlier this morning I have decided that being an imature 15 year old doesnt suit me and i thought it would be better to change that before it is too late. I understand that I have ADHD and will accept it and take responsibilty for it and also my Diabetes. I promise that things are going to be different now because i need to grow up at some stage and learn to listen. You have really helped me. Thankyou.”

(15 year old, Warwickshire)

“May we take this opportunity to say again you are a special person who has a unique gift in dealing with both children and parents alike. Your reassuring advice has given us enormous strength in order to cope. You were handcrafted for your role and thank goodness you chose this profession, otherwise, where would we go! ”

(mother of young child with autism, Warwick)

“It was wonderful to meet you at our appointments – you are truly a caring and reassuring expert, who put us all at ease during a stressful time. Jacob warmed to you immediately, which is so important. We are glad it was you we chose to help us and are extremely grateful for your thorough assessments.”

(mother, Warwick)

“Thank you so much for calling me last night - you sounded wonderfully empathetic and I felt better after I had spoken to you.”

(mother of baby with heart murmur, Stratford-on-Avon)

“I think that things have improved massively. In fact, it is almost like she is another child. She is now comfortable for much longer periods, and the discomfort periods are less and less frequent and shorter in duration. She still gets the odd patch, but it is significantly better. She is laughing and smiling (pretty much for the first time). So, a transformation really….So overall, a massive improvement. Still need to keep working at the diet, but our relief is enormous. You are great, thank you very much for helping us so much.”

(Mother of 8 year old boy with tummy pains, Banbury)

“Thank you for all your help and reassurance, it's lovely to meet such a caring Doctor :-)”

(Mother or two year old, Warwick)

“Just a quick note to acknowledge the significant improvement noted in Dougal's attention and behaviour in the classroom since April's commencement of daily medication. Indeed to quote the opening of my final school report for him: “As alluded to on more than one occasion in this report so far, any comment about Dougal's progress this year must acknowledge the change witnessed in him post the diagnosis and treatment for ADHD, since its impact on both his behaviour and subsequent attainment has been considerable. One hears a voice inside one's head saying, “If only…”

Dougal's distractibility, defiance and excitability have all been significantly curtailed by the medication. On the rare occasions that he demonstrates such behaviours, the question immediately arises: “Has he taken his medication today?”

Furthermore, Dougal's academic progress has returned to the correct trajectory – compensating for 18 months of what was effectively static performance. He achieved fantastic SATs results in English, Maths and Science. Clearly with his ADHD under control, he has the potential to achieve much more at secondary school.

Dougal and I are indebted to your support. Thank you.”

(Teacher's personal letter to me regarding Dougal Gedge aged 11, diagnosed with ADHD this year)

“Our daughter has been like a different girl since we saw you. I am absolutely delighted to tell you that she has slept on her own, all night, since we saw you – it's now 6 nights on the trot, which she has never done in her whole life. You are a miracle worker !!”

(mother of 10 year old girl, Warwickshire)

“Stuart and I would like to thank you for the time you have spent on Emelia's case. We are both incredibly impressed with your knowledge and complete professionalism. Your advice has been brilliant and we have jumped from stressed and deeply concerned to calm and more informed with only one consultation with you so far. Emelia felt very comfortable with you and it is easy to tell that you have a gift with children. We would (and have) thoroughly recommend you to any friend or family member with children.”

(Sara, Stuart and Emelia Sewell, Warwickshire.)”

“I would like to thank you from the bottom of my heart for helping us get to the bottom of Harriet's anxieties. Getting a diagnosis should hopefully mean that Harriet gets all the support she needs and will have some reasoning behind why she feels the way she does.

“I felt you were the first person who had ever really believed and understood what we as a family were going through. Thank you for listening and making me believe in myself as a mother again. Since seeing you, my anxieties have been released, because of this I feel more able to cope with day to day issues.”

(Mother from Staffordshire)

“We came away feeling better after our talk with you, and had a better understanding of what was going on.”

(Birmingham parents)

(Coventry mother)

“I wanted to tell you yesterday but we ran out of time, you are brilliant at your job (which I’m sure you are aware of). You've helped me and my family so much and we will all be eternally grateful. You are not only a very professional lady, but you have a very special aura about you, a lovely personality. You put me at ease, and helped me to understand that Ellie would get better, and I just wanted to say, Thank you.
You go above and beyond what any other Consultant I have ever had anything to do with does – the email exchange we had, helped tremendously. ”
(Mother, Warwickshire)

“Thank you so much for all the help and support you gave me through those worrying times.”

(Mother, Stratford–upon–Avon)

“It has been a real pleasure to meet you and would definitely contact you again.

Thank you for checking my baby and made me feel so relief. After seeing how you have treated her, made me feel I can trust in some English doctors again!

So thank you very much because I think not only have I found I an excellent doctor but a lovely human being as well.”
(Mother, Stratford-upon-Avon)

“Thanks to your speedy actions, the scarring is very slight and the condition can be managed and our son can lead a full and normal life.

(Parents, Warwickshire)

“I would like to thank you from the bottom of our hearts for all your help and advice. When we came to see you we were at our wits end with our son’s reflux and you cured him instantly with the prescription of medication that you advised. We felt so helpless watching our beautiful son feeding in agony and spending hours after screaming and being so uncomfortable, once he began taking his medication he turned back to the happy and contented baby we had only seen a glimpse of, who was able to enjoy feeding again. The reflux took over our lives and even made us housebound, we are so grateful that you were able to change our lives.”

(Parents from Warwick)

“Every time I think of your involvement, I feel grateful anew. It was a great relief to think that my grandson had a thorough examination and all was well.”

(Grandmother, Warwickshire)

“Thanks for an excellent consultation today. We really appreciate all your help and advice.”

(Family from Northampton)

“I am definitely comfortable and happy with what you said about my daughter....

Also she kept talking about you last night and was quite excited that she had the chance to use a real Stethoscope to listen to her heart!!

It is great to know that I can rely on your assistance should I need some help with the girls. As a mother, that gives me the confidence that I can offer my children the professional assistance they need.”

(Stratford-upon-Avon Mother)

“Thank you so much for helping me. You are the first paediatrician who has explained things to me in a way I can understand what the problem is and what needs to happen to make it better. My life changed so much after one appointment with you and the change you made to my medicine, (which is now much less than before). It has made a huge difference to me and my family. I am also much happier at school. Thank you.”

(From a schoolboy near Stratford)

“Dr Jones is a thoroughly warm and approachable paediatric specialist, with a wonderful manner and confidence-inspiring knowledge and expertise. She was brilliant with her diagnosis of my baby daughter’s reflux and dairy intolerance and we saw immediate results as a result of her suggested treatment. She offers excellent advice and a service that I would highly recommend to any of my friends and family with children and I would not hesitate to contact her, should I need to again, with regard to either of mine.”

(Paula Morison)

“Thank you so much for seeing my son for me last week. He has been very well since. It was very reassuring to know that I had not missed anything. I'm very grateful.”
